Kits

One of the nicest couples I know had the Kelowna crew over for dinner yesterday. Sammy and Jordan's place in Kits is gorgeous! Just look at that view, (and the telephone pole; to remind them they are students). It's always nice to catch up with the high school group. In other news I had my first REC volleyball game with my team! So much fun, but I definitely need to remember to bring my knee pads from home after Thanksgiving.

Milk

You know you're an Arts student when you are at Safeway on 10th asking strangers to take a picture of their milk. This is my first project for my VISA (Visual Arts) class, and I was so nervous! Everything went really smoothly, a few people were a little weirded out by the idea, but for the most part everyone was cool about it. I even ran into the Drama prof at UBC, she was so excited that I joined the Players Club (Drama Club) for directing in 2nd term. Then at the last minute I asked the stock clerk if he wanted to be in the project and he went in the back and brought out the egg nog that hadn't been put on the shelves yet. What an unexpected way to end the afternoon. I'll post the project when it's all finished!

Street Spirit

So I'm not a street photographer yet, but I can dream right? I was meandering around Granville & Robson Street Downtown and was so inspired! Vancouver is beautiful. But WTF is up with the dirty white beanbag chairs in the middle of Robson? Hobo went Mod maybe?
I always seem to come back with UO and Aritzia bags... where are Sammy and Ellie when you need them?! (They dragged me up to the Sale section last time as didn't let me even peak as the reg. stuff: true friends)
Also, yes, the Post Title is referring to the Radiohead song... go youtube! I remember being obsessed with it in grade 10.
Oh, and PS: I took the photos on Manual, please forgive the amateur focusing :)

Canon Love

How's everyone's week going? I always loved Thursdays, perhaps even more than Fridays; because you have a longer time to get excited about the weekend. My weekend looks pretty low key... However! I have some excellent news that will help me fill it right up. The day before last I finally purchased my long-awaited Canon T3i DSLR (LSD, lol Tuuli) camera!!! I am already in love at the very first few shots. Don't get excited yet citizens- I'm still using it on Auto for now. Since I got it at Broadway Camera (in Vancouver) I get a free lesson on Saturday. So I'm going to take advantage of that, and then we can start to see some amazing shots. Until then we can marvel at it's first image... and if you know me, you'll know the subject of that image was- food!

On another high-tech note, I have put in a new gadget on the sidebar of the Blog, perhaps you've noticed? Yes, my Insta-obsession is carrying through to other realms of the internet. The most current image on there (if you are to look at it when I post this) is a picture of the book The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. I was scouring Chapters for something to read between classes that wasn't so serious/technical. This was the perfect fit! It also continues my complete admiration and religious viewing of the BBC mini series Sherlock. If you haven't seen this, just watch the first episode and you'll be hooked. Everything about the show is done to perfection, cinematography, script, cast...
And while we are on the subject a few other shows that are on my top 10 (maybe I should post a list sometime..) Breaking Bad and The Good Wife. I've heard incessantly about Game of Thrones, and should be watching that... maybe when I am done with the last season of The Good Wife.

Quick Student Recipe Idea: Whole Wheat Bagel with low fat Cream Cheese, Turkey slices, Tomato, and (the super food) Avacado! (I eat an Avacado a day, read the health benefits here! They are so easy and yummy to incorporate into wraps, sandwiches and salads)

I left the photo unedited, so we could bask in DSLR glory

The Big Leagues

So the football game today was fun, even though none of that fun was made possible by the sport itself. I mostly (ok wholly) go to football games to: a) people watch b) laugh at hecklers c) hang out with the person beside me. People watching remains one of my favourite sports, (second to volleyball, of course) and I think it never gets old. Having that awkward hour between classes that really isn't enough time to work, and not enough time to go home, I am a frequent people-watcher. Campus life is turing out to be comfortable so far, as I explore the grounds for warm and cushioned hangouts. (Buchanan A second floor "lounge" area is a nice one, also the ground level of the Geography building has some couches, and since nobody can find the Geography building in the first place it would probably be a nice one to go to for some quiet- I'll have to check it out mid-day sometime.)
Probably the best news I've had all week is the prospect of joining a REC volleyball team. I got the tip from a friend of mine (thanks Katja!) and will be looking forward to some team sport! My life just feels so complete when I am playing volleyball.
Then I stopped by a sushi place on 10th (across form Safeway) and picked up the special for $6! Oh yeah- Vancity sushi. This was in a redemption effort of my salmon steak fail yesterday (never buy a salmon in the 50% off bin). If you end up checking it out get the tempura yam roll, yum! And right next to it happens to be a Starbucks. Guess what I found... Pumpkin Spice Latte Mix! (Which is like my crack)
So all in all another productive day? I did do a little reading... but that's student life.

You Found It!

Welcome to the new Blog!

I have been missing the weekly (ok, sometimes daily) updating and documentation!
To fill you in on my current situation:
I have been accepted to UBC (and now live in) Vancouver!
Yaaaaay! I'm finally in my favourite city, (at least Canadian city but it is definitely in the running for "all time fav").

I can't wait to get started on showing you the ah-mazingness of Vancouver! Which will be artiscically improved with the purchase of my new camera... soon to follow. For now I will be relying on the trusty iPhone&Instagram combo that must suffice.

You can hope to be entertained from this Blog with local and cultural aspects of Vancouver, such as:

Site seeing

Restaurants
Shopping (you know me)
Music
Student life
Student cooking ideas

And more! (That I'm sure will come to mind)
Lastly, thank you to all of my followers from Austria: A Film Maker's Story and if you are getting sentimental (as I have once or twice) please refer back! (It's still there!)

Meanwhile, in current events, I am going to the exhibition: Carrying on "Irregardless": Humour in Contemporary Northwest Coast Art at the Bill Reid Gallery tonight.
